We are evolving the test of our Reels Play bonus on Instagram and Facebook as we focus on investing in a suite of monetization solutions to help creators earn steady streams of income. Beginning on March 9, 2023, we stopped extending new and renewed Reels Play deals for creators on Instagram and Facebook globally. We will honor existing Reels Play deals across Instagram and Facebook. To learn more about other ways to earn on Instagram and Facebook, click here.

Increasing Reels monetization opportunities with expanded overlay ad, Stars on Reels tests
We believe that creators who do the hard work of crafting and promoting original content should be rewarded in distribution, growth, and monetization. As part of these efforts, we recently rolled out ranking changes that prioritize the distribution of original content in places where we recommend Reels, like the Reels tab and Feed on Instagram and Feed and Watch on Facebook. As we continue this work, we’re making a few changes to our incentives program that give creators ways to reach new followers and uncover new opportunities.
As we continue to test and refine the Reels Play bonus programs, we’re making some updates. We’re adjusting how payouts are calculated, aimed at rewarding creators across a range of audience sizes who are making high quality original content that resonates with people, (which may result in payouts changing for some creators).
We’ve also heard that creators want more visibility into how their Reels are performing, so we’re rolling out insights for Reels Play creators on Facebook. On the Reels Play Bonus Insight page on Facebook, creators can easily see how many Plays each of their eligible Reels received within the given earning period.
We’ll continue to test various incentive programs, adjust payout pricing, and apply what we learn as we expand to more creators.

To help creators build sustainable businesses, we’re offering more ways to build a community — and generate revenue from more than just incentives.
Building on the strong advertising and revenue sharing foundation we’ve established with in-stream ads, we’ve been rolling out overlay ads in Reels on Facebook, and we’re starting to test them with a wider set of creators, (beyond the in-stream ads program) to expand availability to more creators and open up more high quality inventory for advertisers on our platform.
We’ve been expanding our tests of Stars on Reels, and soon, Instagram creators can crosspost their Reels to Facebook, giving them the ability to seamlessly share their Reels to their followers on both platforms, opening up potential to grow audiences on both Instagram and Facebook. We’ll also explore the ability for eligible creators to earn a share of revenue on crossposted Reels via overlay ads. Creators can also earn bonuses from both Instagram Reels Play and Facebook Reels Play.
