Music Revenue Sharing, allows video creators to earn a share of in-stream ad revenue from their videos on Facebook that contain licensed music, opening up a new way to earn money for both creators and music rights holders.

With Music Revenue Sharing on Facebook, creators can now earn money in their videos which may include popular music from our expansive licensed catalog, featuring artists like Post Malone, Tove Lo, Grupo La Cumbia, Leah Kate, Bicep and more.

This feature is the first of its kind within the music industry at this scale.

Expanding Music Revenue Sharing on Facebook, allows video creators to monetize their videos that use licensed music from our expansive catalog. This gives both creators and music rights holders a new way to earn money from videos on Facebook.

With Music Revenue Sharing, whenever a creator uses licensed music in their videos on Facebook that are 60 seconds or longer, they can earn money on certain videos through in-stream ads, with a share of revenue going back to the music rights holders.

Music can drive culture and social interactions, and this feature enables video creators to include more of their favorite music from popular artists like Post Malone, Tove Lo, Grupo La Cumbia, Leah Kate, and Bicep, among many others.

With video making up over half of the time spent on Facebook, Music Revenue Sharing helps creators access more popular music, deepening relationships with their fans — and the music industry. Made possible through our partnerships across the music industry, this feature is the first of its kind at this scale, benefiting creators, our partners, music rights holders and fans.

I have dreamed about using popular music in my videos for years. Music Revenue Sharing on Facebook is an absolute game changer for creators! I was lucky enough to test this feature earlier this summer. Hearing iconic film scores on my movie-themed recipe videos enhances my content so much. I could not be more excited about this!

Details and eligibility

With Music Revenue Sharing, video creators can create and share videos featuring music from an expansive catalog of licensed songs without worrying if the music has been licensed by rights holders. Video creators will receive 20% revenue share on eligible videos, with a separate share going to rights holders and to Meta.

All content created must satisfy Facebook’s monetization policies, Community Standards and music guidelines. Music or videos that violate these terms still risk penalties, such as demonetization. More details about revenue sharing can be found in the Help Center.

To be eligible for Music Revenue Sharing, video creators must be eligible for in-stream ads and meet our monetization eligibility standards. In addition, eligible videos must meet this criteria:

The Facebook video should be 60 seconds or longer and uploaded to a Facebook Page.

The featured song must be covered in the Licensed Music library, which contains all eligible songs for Music Revenue Sharing.

There must be a visual component in the video; the licensed music itself cannot be the primary purpose of the video.

Before uploading any video content to Facebook, we recommend that you check the Licensed Music library, which contains all eligible songs that have been approved for monetization through Music Revenue Sharing. Once confirmed, here’s how Music Revenue Sharing works:

Upload your video (60 seconds or longer) to your Facebook Page via Creator Studio or direct upload to your Page.

If the song is eligible for Music Revenue Sharing, you’ll see a notification within Creator Studio and Support Inbox that confirms this.

Once the video is published to your Page, you’ll receive a notification confirming that your video is earning and sharing revenue.

Creators can monitor their progress on expected earnings from in-stream ads in Creator Studio.

Music Revenue Sharing has rolled out to video creators globally. Eligible videos can monetize from in-stream ads where music is available on Facebook.

We’ll continue to work with our music partners to expand the Licensed Music library to include more licensed songs from your favorite artists and evolve the experience. These efforts will help bring creators and the music industry closer together, leading to more authentic connections with fans.

We’ll also gather feedback from video creators to ensure that we’re delivering on their needs. And over time, we’ll build out more ways for people to share, discover and connect through videos on Facebook.
