Making money on Facebook: Creators share how they monetize their content

27 Oktober 2023

A global community, immense reach and meaningful revenue: These are the benefits multiple successful creators attribute to Facebook in a Business Insider article published in October 2023.

"Facebook has a much more diverse audience than a lot of other platforms, it's very worldwide,” creator Wasil Daoud shared with Insider, “so your content reach can be a lot greater.” Connecting with this audience has paid off for the food creator, who’s earned over $9,000 on Facebook alone since January 2023. According to the Insider article, tapping into Facebook has helped increase his income from social media significantly–he’s earned 30 times as much in Facebook revenue by reposting his videos, compared to other short-form video apps.

Fellow food and recipe creator, My Nguyen, shares Wasil’s views. "There's so many ways to make money on Facebook that my manager calls it a cash cow," she told Insider.

Topping 3 billion monthly active users, Facebook is home to one of the world’s largest communities. According to the Insider article, creators see less competition on Facebook and more opportunity for category ownership. It’s a high reach, high reward equation that’s paying off. "There's room to be the first in your niche on Facebook and monetize off of that," Wasil said.

Monetizing content on Facebook can take many forms. Here are 5 things you can do now to start making money on Facebook:

1. Turn on Professional Mode (ProMode) or set up a Facebook Page

When you get started as a creator on Facebook, you get to decide whether to turn your profile to Professional Mode or create a separate Facebook Page. Both ProMode and Pages unlock professional tools to help you build a following and earn money. Which one is best for you? Here are some thoughts:

If you’re building your personal brand using your name and you want to bring your friends and family along the journey with you, use your current profile and turn on Professional Mode. You can post to your friends only or to a public audience. If you’re building a business or making an account for a pet, create a Facebook Page to manage that presence separately from your private personal profile.

Follow these steps to turn on professional mode:

2. Below your profile header, click or tap the menu button (…) on the right side.

3. Click or tap Turn on professional mode.

4. To confirm, click or tap Turn on and complete the flow.

2. Understand which monetization products you’re eligible for

As a creator, you may be eligible for different monetization products if you meet Facebook's Partner Monetization Policies. Here’s how to find out if your Page or Professional Mode profile is eligible:

To find out if your Page is eligible:

1. Go to Meta Business Suite desktop.

2. On the left, click the Monetization tab to see an overview of your status and Page eligibility.

3. Select the Page you want to check in the top-left dropdown menu.

You will see if you have any monetization violations in the Status section. You can also see if you have recent violations in the Policy issues tab on the left. If you click on View Page Eligibility, you will find more detailed information about your Page’s access to monetization tools:

At the top, you’ll see a list of monetization tools you are eligible to use. Click Set up to get started using a tool.

Click the arrow to the right of Other monetization tools to see a list of tools you aren’t eligible to use at this time.

Under each tool, click View criteria to see criteria that must be met in order to use it.

To find out if your Professional Mode profile is eligible, you must have professional mode turned on.

1. Go to the Professional dashboard on mobile.

2. Go to Tools to Try.

3. Select Monetization.

From here, you will be able to see monetization programs and professional tools available in professional mode.

If your Profile is eligible for a monetization tool, when you select a tool (for example: Stars) you will see prompts to set it up.

If your profile is not eligible for monetization, Not yet eligible will appear above the list of monetization tools. Note: Click on an individual tool to see criteria that must be met in order to use it.

If you do not see monetization programs under Tools to Try, you may reside in a country where monetization is not yet available.

3. Learn more about monetization tools
