Q: Can you tell us a bit about who you are and what you do?

I am a professional makeup artist with a passion for helping people apply their own makeup in a beautiful and fun way. I love to teach for free with the hope of encouraging anyone who is willing to open their mind to the use of colors through their cosmetics, brushes and tools.

Q: How did you get into making videos? What led you to start going Live on Facebook?

I wanted to start my own video blog, but it was difficult for me as I had my first daughter when I was 15 years old back in 2008 and I was not financially stable. I started [my live series] because I noticed people in the grocery store, department stores and at events and I began to think, ‘Maybe if I teach them in Facebook Live videos and share my way of thinking, my experience and knowledge, then they could learn better ways to apply their own makeup.’

More recently, Facebook allowed me to include in-stream ads for Live within my free classes. That’s when everything began to change. This gave me the opportunity to spend more time with my little ones. Happily I can say Facebook made this possible. I have more time to teach and help as many people as I can on how to apply their own makeup from the comfort of their home.

I’m very glad I have helped many people and motivated them through my passion to start doing their own makeup and even start making their own Live makeup videos.

Q: You've seen great success monetizing your Live videos. What motivated you to choose in-stream ads to build your business?

There is nothing like Live videos where you feel that connection with the audience. I prefer in-stream ads for Live over any other monetization because of how simple and easy it is for me to use. I love it!

Q: What do you think it is about you and your content that makes people keep coming back for more?

My free makeup classes. Everywhere you see, they charge for makeup classes. And I make my followers feel very special by taking the time to explain everything step-by-step in detail.

Q: What advice would you give other creators looking to accomplish their business goals and monetize their content on Facebook?

Go live and interact with your audience at least two to three times a week. It’s all about consistency, hard work and dedication. Invest in your equipment, be yourself, don’t let the bad vibes get to you and remember to always do what you love.

Want to build your Facebook Live presence?

Going live is a simple way to reach your fans any day of the week. You can go live to broadcast what’s on your mind, a conversation, announcement, performance, Q&A or a fundraiser for a cause close to your heart.

Here are some tips:

Plan your live broadcast in advance to help maximize reach. Schedule your live video, then let your fans know with posts or stories highlighting your upcoming live broadcast.

Aim to stream for at least 15 minutes or longer. Remember, your viewers may need time to join you live.

There are a few ways you can go live: on your mobile device from the Facebook App, on your desktop using Live Producer, or using an API.

Create a conversation by replying to comments and welcoming viewers as they join the live broadcast.

Try out co-hosting! If you plan to go live on a mobile device, you can use the Live With feature to co-broadcast with a guest and create an engaging live experience. Messenger Rooms provides the opportunity to go live with up to 50 people.

Pin comments you want to highlight and discuss (your own or those from fans!).

Crosspost the live broadcast to multiple Pages simultaneously (only available using Live Producer)

Make sure your viewers know when to tune in to your live broadcasts by turning on live video notifications. Throughout your live stream, encourage your viewers to find and “click the bell” icon to subscribe to your live video posts. Once they’re subscribed, they’ll receive a notification each time you go live, which allows them to quickly tune in when you begin your next broadcast.
