Helping creators build a business now — and for the metaverse

Meta for Creators hero image

We are evolving the test of our Reels Play bonus on Instagram and Facebook as we focus on investing in a suite of monetization solutions to help creators earn steady streams of income. Beginning on March 9, 2023, we stopped extending new and renewed Reels Play deals for creators on Instagram and Facebook globally. We will honor existing Reels Play deals across Instagram and Facebook. To learn more about other ways to earn on Instagram and Facebook, click here.

To help creators better connect with their fans, build a business and prepare for the metaverse, we’re announcing several new features and tools across Facebook and Instagram.

We’re extending our commitment to not take fees on Subscriptions, Badges, Paid Online Events and Bulletin until January 1, 2024.

We’re also opening Facebook Stars to all eligible creators, adding monetization options for Reels, testing a space for brands and creators to easily connect on Instagram, introducing new ways to bring your subscribers with you from other platforms and expanding our digital collectible testing.

We’re expanding the ways creators can earn money on Facebook and Instagram today, and sharing updates on new technologies that will help creators as we build for the metaverse.

We’re also extending our commitment to not take fees on Subscriptions, Badges, Paid Online Events and Bulletin for an additional year, running until January 1, 2024.

Making Facebook Stars available to more creators and on Reels

Launching Stars for all eligible creators

Facebook Stars is now open to all eligible creators across multiple formats: Facebook Live, on-demand videos and–coming soon–Facebook Reels. We’re expanding our Stars on Reels test to tens of thousands of creators, with full availability to all creators using Stars in the coming months.

Stars, a digital good that fans can buy and send to support creators, enables creators to earn money and build deeper connections with their audiences. Now, any creator who meets the following eligibility criteria will be able to begin receiving Stars from their fans:

At least 1,000 followers through the last 60 days

In one of the following markets: US, Philippines, Canada, Mexico, UK, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, France, Peru, Malaysia, Brazil, India, Colombia, Italy, Spain, Germany, New Zealand, Portugal, Belgium, Chile, Australia, Argentina

From beauty experts to gaming creators, we’re seeing emerging and established creators find success with Stars. Dr. Jen Caudle, Hillary Klug and Lipstickfables have found success with Stars across Live and VOD by building fan awareness and posting regularly. Stars on Reels has enabled creators like Nicholas Safier and Dr. Kojo Sarfo to build deeper relationships with their audiences. This is why we’re making Stars available to creators early on in their journey, right as they start building their business on Facebook. Creators can check their eligibility and begin onboarding here.

Creators can now more easily onboard, check their Stars earnings by content type, manage their goals and access other Stars settings. Creators on iOS will be able to access Stars directly from the mobile post composer on the new Pages experience while creating a post. Once they meet eligibility for Stars, creators can turn Stars on and off for their posts directly from the post composer. Stars onboarding will also be accessible from Creator Studio.

More ways to earn with Reels on Facebook

Reels is the fastest-growing content format on our platforms, and we want to help creators maximize their monetization opportunities. Last year, we announced our Facebook Reels Play bonus program, which gives creators the opportunity to earn money from Facebook by creating and sharing eligible public reels on the platform.

This has only been available to select creators on an invite-only basis to date, but we've also opened an application process for US-based creators to self-apply. US-based creators that meet the following eligibility criteria are encouraged to apply:

5+ original reels created in the last 30 days

100,000+ plays in the last 30 days

We’re also testing ways creators can earn money on both Instagram and Facebook with crossposted content. For instance, Reels crossposted from Instagram to Facebook may be eligible to earn revenue share from overlay ads on Facebook, which we are rolling out around the world in many markets, as well as for the Facebook Reels Play Bonus program.

Additionally, creators will soon be able to use the ‘Paid Partnerships with’ label for branded content on Facebook Reels and allow sponsors to easily convert them to Branded Content Ads.

Land new brand partnerships with Creator Marketplace

We will soon begin testing Creator Marketplace on Instagram, where brands and creators can more easily build branded content partnerships.

In the coming months, creators will be able to indicate the brands and topics they’re interested in creating branded content about, discover opportunities to partner with vetted brands and manage their brand deals without ever leaving the app. We’ll also begin testing in-app payments so brands can pay creators for branded content through Instagram when a project is complete.

Brands will also be able to discover and collaborate with Instagram creators through Meta Business Suite using demographic and interest filters for a creator and their audience. When they’ve found a creator they want to partner with, they’ll be able to send a project with the details of the opportunity, including deliverables and payment. When a creator posts branded content for a Creator Marketplace project, the permissions will be automatically granted for the paid partnership label. When the deal includes boosting the content as an ad, that permission is automated, too.

We previously announced a partnerships messaging folder within Instagram DMs, as well as filters for brands and creators to find each other — this will now be a part of Creator Marketplace. The test will be open to a select number of brands and creators in the US, with access expanding in the coming months.

More options for engaging with subscribers, on and off Facebook

Interoperable Subscriber Groups on Facebook

We know that many creators have a fanbase across a variety of online platforms. With that in mind, we’re announcing our first investment in interoperable monetization tools for creators: Interoperable Subscriber Groups. This enables creators to receive payments from their fans on other platforms, and seamlessly offer them access to exclusive features on Facebook, starting with subscriber-only Facebook Groups.

Interoperable Subscriber Groups will not only save creators time in building a home for their communities on Facebook, but will allow them to offer paying fans exciting new benefits and a much simpler user experience. We’re testing the product now with select partners, with plans to add more platforms and more interoperable subscriber features down the road.

Our initial partners for Interoperable Subscriber Groups include MemberPress, a membership and subscription plugin for WordPress. Creators like Rachel Lessenden of Health My Lifestyle, can manage payments on her MemberPress-powered website and seamlessly add new subscribers to her subscriber-only Facebook Group.

We’re also partnering with Acast, a podcasting platform that enables fans to directly support the creators they love, like Jessica Matlin and Jennifer Sullivan — who host the beauty podcast Fat Mascara. Soon, their Acast+ podcast members can join their subscriber-only Facebook Group right from the podcast feed.

And we’re excited to partner with platforms built by creators, like Nuseir Yassin of Nas Daily. His site, Nas Academy, offers tools to help creators build learning communities. But rather than having to build custom community engagement tools, they can use Interoperable Subscriber Groups to seamlessly move the conversation to Facebook Groups.

New Facebook Subscriptions features

As we continue to help creators build authentic relationships with their fans, we’re rolling out a few new tools for our Subscriptions product on Facebook. Creators will now be able to:

Share a post that’s visible to subscribers only with mobile composer

Gain access to Subscriptions via mobile (previously only available on desktop)

Recognize new subscribers with appreciation posts and Stories

Get recommendations of high-priority comments, so you don’t miss what matters

Digital collectibles available to more creators, in more places

As we build for the metaverse, investing in web3 technologies and digital collectibles like NFTs is a crucial part of our long-term commitment to creators. We’re already seeing creators like @misshattan, @nylacollection_nft, @amber_vittoria and @bossbeautiesnft find success sharing their NFTs with their communities on Instagram.

We're expanding our test of digital collectibles on Instagram to more global creators and a handful of additional countries. Creators and collectors will be able to share their digital collectibles across Facebook and Instagram after we begin rolling out the feature on Facebook with select US creators at a later date. We’ll also soon start to test NFTs in Instagram Stories with SparkAR.

We’ve also compiled a guide on how NFTs work and why they’re essential for the metaverse.

There will be no fees associated with posting or sharing a digital collectible on Instagram, and for now we won’t offer the ability to turn digital collectible posts into ads.

We know that NFTs raise important sustainability questions. As part of Meta’s commitment to sustainability, we’re helping to reduce the emissions impact that might be associated with digital collectibles by purchasing renewable energy.

As we continue rolling out digital collectibles on Facebook and Instagram, we’ve started giving people the ability to post digital collectibles that they own across both Facebook and Instagram. This will enable people to connect their digital wallets once to either app in order to share their digital collectibles across both.

Update as of October 20, 2022: We’re expanding the ability to showcase digital collectibles on Facebook to 100 additional countries in Africa, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and the Americas. Creators and owners of digital collectibles in eligible countries will be able to connect their eligible third-party wallets and share their digital collectibles across both Facebook and Instagram.
