How Sujin Kim found success cross-posting reels from Instagram to Facebook

February 14, 2023

Sujin Kim

With a lot of humor and originality, creator Sujin Kim (@Chinguamiga) connects millions of followers across Meta platforms through reels that explore the cultural differences between Korea, her native country, and Mexico, where she now resides. And it seems her content has struck a nerve on both Facebook and Instagram, the latter growing 600% in a month once she started sharing her reels. She shared with us the secrets to her success.

RESULTS:

Followers grew over 600% in just one month, May - June, 2022

3+ minute video revenue grew from almost nothing to a 5-digit monthly revenue in USD in a month. May - June, 2022

All results are self-reported and not identically repeatable. Generally expected individual results will differ.

STRATEGY:

South Korea-native Sujin Kim, known as @Chinguamiga, began producing videos during the pandemic and on-site classes were canceled. Her videos became a vehicle to teach the Korean language and culture to a growing local audience. Soon her content evolved to portray not only her hometown heritage, but also the differences (and similarities) between Korea and Mexico. Hence her username–Chinguamiga–the first half of which means “friend” in Korean, and the second half means “friend” in Spanish.

When Chingu discovered Reels, they quickly became a key pillar of her content strategy. Then Meta introduced cross-posting for reels, which enables Instagram Reels on Facebook, and Sujin’s popularity increased even more. “I managed to reach a larger audience because they are different audiences,” she said.

Since she started posting her Instagram Reels on Facebook, her followers grew 600% on the platform in a month, and her revenue on videos of more than three minutes grew from almost nothing to a 5-digit monthly revenue in USD from May to June. She relies on posting long videos daily, along with 30-second reels. That content mix is highly strategic: Reels reach a wide audience, which she is then able to monetize through her longer-form video content.

She is also highly analytical, studying new trends and combing through comments to deliver quality videos that resonate. Constantly in “creator mode,” Sujin jots down situations from her day to day as they come up, which lend authenticity and relatability to her videos about being a foreigner living in Mexico.

Chingu shared the following tips with aspiring creators:

1

From day one, look for what makes you different from other creators and use it as a source of inspiration.

2

Make content you yourself enjoy.

3

Stay consistent. This earns you the trust of your audience.

4

Know your audience and what trends are successful.

5

Adapt to the type of content and formats that your followers consume the most.

6

Always give it a go. Don't be afraid of trying new formulas and ideas.

Capitalizing on her success, Sujin has travel plans, and video plans of both the short- and long-variety. Stay tuned at @Chinguamiga to follow along on her adventures.
