Expanding Meta AI Translations for Creators on Facebook and Instagram

August 19, 2025

Updated 9 October 2025: Meta AI translation now supports multi-lingual translations between English, Spanish, Hindi and Portuguese, on both Facebook and Instagram. See additional availability information here.

Have you ever wished you could magically speak another language so that your content could reach and resonate with people all over the world? With the help of Meta AI, this is starting to become reality. Learn more.

Today we’re expanding access to Meta AI translations, a free tool that, once enabled, automatically dubs and lip syncs your reels into another language. This helps you reach and better connect with audiences all over the world so you can grow a global following. With Meta AI translations, you can speak to viewers in their own language, opening up your content to new audiences that may not have found it accessible before.

Meta AI Translations uses the sound and tone of your own voice so it feels authentically you. And the lip syncing feature matches your mouth's movements to the translated audio, so that it looks like you're really speaking the language in the reel. You’re in full control of the entire experience, and can turn it on and off and review or remove translations at any time.

Meta AI translations are first available for English to Spanish and Spanish to English translations, with more languages coming in the future. Facebook creators with 1,000 or more followers and all Instagram public accounts can access the feature. See additional availability information here.

How Meta AI Translations works on Facebook:

Getting started is simple. Before publishing your reel, click “Translate your voice with Meta AI”. Then toggle the button to turn on translations and whether you want to enable lip syncing. That’s it. Click “share now” and your reel and the translation can be seen in Spanish or English.

If you want to review the translation before it’s published, you can select the toggle to enable this option, you will then receive a notification (or you can go to Professional Dashboard) to review and approve the translation. Accepting or rejecting the translation will not impact your original, non-translated reel.

Translated reels will be shown to viewers in their preferred language and they will be able to see that your reel was translated with Meta AI. Viewers can also control whether they see translations in specific languages by selecting “Don’t translate” in the audio and language section within the three dot settings menu.

Once your translated content is published, you can see a new breakdown of the views metric by language. At a glance, you will see which languages your viewers are watching in to help you better understand how your translations are performing.

Best practices to make the most of your translated videos

Translations work best with face-to-camera videos. Face forward, speak clearly, and avoid covering your mouth.

On Facebook, the tool supports translation for up to two speakers. If your reel has more than one speaker, refrain from speaking over each other for more accurate translations.

Minimise excessive background noise or music in translated reels.

Stay consistent. Remember, you are building a new audience in a new language. Give them time to get to know you and your content.

Now you can upload your own translated audio tracks to your Facebook Reels

If you have a Facebook Page and already translate your own reels, you can now upload up to 20 of your own dubbed audio tracks to a single Reel, helping you connect with a broader audience across different languages. Like Meta AI translations, viewers will hear your reel in their own language so you can continue to build deeper connections with diverse audiences without language barriers.

Simply navigate to the Reels composer in Meta Business Suite, check “Upload your own translated audio tracks” in the “Closed captions & translations” section, upload your tracks and select the corresponding language. You can add, replace, or remove translated tracks both before and after publishing your reels. Then click “Share” and publish your reel. Just like with Meta AI translations, your audience will see the video with the translated track in the language they have selected in their settings.
